´Encounters with the Cathedral´: Jose Calvo Poyato will offer a conference

                  Vitoria- Gasteiz, 18th February 2010.- The writer Jose Calvo Poyato will offer a conference in the ´Encounters with the Cathedral´ programme. This writer, born in Cordoba,  will talk about the origin and evolution of the historical novel. The conference will begin at 8.00pm in Villa Suso Palace with free entrance.
After the visit of  writers like Salvador Santa Puche, Carmen and Valle Vaquero or Angeles de Irisarri, Jose Calvo Poyato, author of more than forty novels, will offer his conference titled ´The historical novel: its origin and evolution´.Born in 1951, Jose Calvo Poyato is Doctor of History by the University of Granada and has written more than forty novels and also hundreds of articles that have been published in some prestigious magazines. With ´La Villa de Cabra en la crisis del siglo XVII´ he won the Juan Valera prize in 1978.
In 1995 he published ´El hechizo del rey´, in 1999 ´Conjura en Madrid´ and in 2000 ´La Biblia Negra´, that sold about 200.000 copies.
His novels have been translated to different languages like english, german, italian, russian,polish, portuguese or lithuanian and in more than sixteen countries. Since 1986 he is member of the Royal Academy of Cordoba and in 2003 he founded the magazine ´Andalucia in the History´.
