Santa María Cathedral will be hosting a concert by Jabier Muguruza this Saturday

The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. and admission is free, although tickets must be picked up ahead of time

Vitoria-Gasteiz, April 16, 2009 - Next Saturday, April 18, Fundación Catedral Santa María will be resuming the Open for concerts series with a performance by singer Jabier Muguruza. The recital, which will begin at 8:00 p.m., is free of charge, although tickets must be collected ahead of time.
After the Easter Week music concerts and with the arrival of the month of April, Fundación Catedral Santa María is recommencing the Open for Concert series, a musical initiative launched last year to infuse the portico with sound, which has been enthusiastically received by the public.
The season’s first concert will be featuring Jabier Muguruza, a singer currently in the spotlight thanks to his recently-completed new work, an album entitled Konplizeak (Cómplices). This is Muguruza’s ninth official CD, the latest in a career that began with Boza Barruan in 1994 and continues to draw praise.
Muguruza has joined the ranks of stellar Basque singers, alongside indisputable classics such as Mikel Laboa, Benito Lertxundi and Ruper Ordorika, and has won the respect and admiration of musicians such as Jackson Browne, Albert Pla, Santiago Auserón and Kiko Veneno. To top it all off, Muguruza has been able to synchronise his musical careers with literature, journalism and musical compositions for plays and shows and his tours have taken him from Germany to Brazil.
In 2002, his album Hain Guapa Zaude won the Premio de la Música award for Best Album in Basque and in 2004, he was a guest professor at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (founded by Paul McCartney).
Muguruza’s CD Konplizeak once again showcases the particular sensitivity and exquisite touch that characterise this singer-songwriter. Collaborating in the lyrics are several old favourites, such as Iñaki Irazu, Joseba Sarrionandia, Xabier Lete and Inazio Mujika, and new collaborators, such as Leire Bilbao, Angel Erro and Covadonga Da Silva.
In the musical area, the creative core continues to be based on Muguruza’s voice and accordion, Angel Unzu’s guitar and direction and Mireia Otzerinjauregi’s back-up voice, although Martirio and Duquende have also lent their voices and Gorka Benítez his tenor sax to the project.
Once again this concert will be free of charge and take place in the Cathedral’s portico at 8:00 p.m.. Tickets must be picked up in advance at the Visitors’ Reception Centre (Plaza de las Brullerías), since seating capacity is limited.
