Last July 17, the portico in Santa
María Cathedral hosted the award of the Fray Francisco de Vitoria
medal to the ACNUR, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner
for Refugees. Judith Kumin, director of this entity in Europe, received
the medal from the hand of Patxi Lazcoz, mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, in
recognition of the accomplishments of a group that has been working to
promoting peace, co-existence and solidarity for 58 years.
The event was attended by First Deputy Head Claudio Rodríguez, the
President of the Alava Parliament, Juan Antonio Zárate, Chancellor of
the University of the Basque Country, Iñaki Goirizelaia, and Managing
Director of Fundación Catedral Santa María, Juan Ignacio Lasagabaster,
among others.
