        Vitoria- Gasteiz 30th December 2009 The Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation will train volunteers of the Mejora Foundation to make guided visits to the cathedral with members of this Foundation. This initiave will be developed during January and February and pursues the collaboration of the citizenship and the social commitment of the adults that want to dedicate their time to other people.

        Since last September the Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation and the Mejora Foundation are both located in the Cuchillería street , and they have organized together this course for the adults over 55 years old.The cultural volunteering course, similar to other ones organized by the Mejora Foundation in association with another entities of the city, will permit the participants to know better the restoration project of the Santa Maria Cathedral. After the course the participants will be able to guide in the visit to the cathedral  their partners of the Mejora Foundation.
The course will begin on the 19th January till the 23rd of February and only on Tuesdays between 16.00pm and 18.00pm. The theoretical sessions will take place in the Mejora Foundation, and later they will be able to practice in the cathedral. The group will be of 20 persons approximately, interest for art and history, for conservation of heritage and interest for learning is needed. The course is free and interested persons can be registered in the Mejora Foundation ( Cuchilleria street 24).   
The first session will be given by the Director of the Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation, the architect  Mr. Juan Ignacio Lasagabaster, who will explain the situation of the cathedral before the drafting of the Master Plan of the restoration, its development and the situation later. The next ones will be the coordinators of the guides, Mrs. Txus Pavón and Ibabe Goikoetxea, who will contribute their knowledge about the abse, the triforium e.t.c. and the technician of the cathedral Mr. Iñaki Koroso will explain the monumental information system. The last two sessions will be dedicated for visiting the cathedral.
