Santa María Cathedral Foundation organises the course 'Learning to teach through art’

2010/01/13  It is aimed at anyone, whether they are teachers or not, interested in this discipline. Starting on 8th February and lasting until May.

Vitoria-Gasteiz, 13th January 2010.- The Santa María Cathedral Foundation has organised the course 'Learning to teach through art: the didactics of visual culture', an initiative destined to teachers and non-teachers who want to find out about this discipline.
In 23 sessions lasting one hour and a half starting on 8th February and lasting until May, the idea is to show the possibilities offered by the teaching and learning of art.
'Learning to teach through art' is aimed at anyone interested in acquiring knowledge and practice in a discipline, Artistic Education, shrouded in myth. The idea is also to dismiss the image of this activity as a mere content-free recreational pastime, showing its importance for the personal, emotional and cognitive development of children and adults. This course aims to show all the possibilities offered by the teaching and learning of Art and Visual Culture in general (heritage, publicity, cinema, magazines, comics...) and their contribution of sensibility, aesthetics, analytical and critical capacity, etc. It will be taught by, Ainhoa Gómez Pintado, Doctor of Fine Arts. It has been structured in 23 sessions lasting one hour and a half that combine theory and practice, and where all the tools, strategies and work processes necessary to carry out a project on artistic education will be shown, from the point of view of knowledge and critical understanding and the production of visual objects. The course will start on 8th February and will last until 12th May, and the sessions will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 19:30 to 21:00. With a maximum of thirty participants, it will be structured in the following blocks: what do we call art?, what is visual culture?, why should we learn and teach art?, myths concerning artistic education or how do we teach art? The fee will be 90 euros per person for members of the Circle of Founders of Santa María Cathedral, 120 euros for non-members.Anyone interested in participating in this initiative can call phone No 945 12 21 60.
