Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation announces the third edition of the short story competition

2011/02/22 The restoration project of the Cathedral, its history and the setting in the Historic District will be the story line.

           Vitoria- Gasteiz, February 22nd 2011.- Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation has announced the third edition of the short story competition aimed to incentivise citizen participation taking the Cathedral as main topic, It´s history, rehabilitation process and even its setting in the Historic District will be the protagonist of the writing competition. Those interested in taking part have until May 13th to present their works. Santa Maria Cathedral is sponsoring a short story contest under the motto ´Once upon a time there was a Cathedral´ and aims to ascertain how  citizens perceive  the restoration project and to promote local literary production. Santa Maria Cathedral has received almost one million visitors during this ten years.

The competition will be divided in four categories: Works in Spanish or Basque by young people between 12 and 17 and those works in those languages by those who are 18 years old and older. The core of the plot must revolve around the Cathedral, its history, setting and rehabilitation, and can not take more than 10 pages long. Only original and unpublished works that have not won awards in other competitions may be entered. Each author may submit a maximum of two works.

Those interested in taking part must present their creations by May 13th at the Foundation (Plaza de la Burulleria) Mondays to Fridays between 09.30 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. or between 4.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m.

The jury , composed of five members connected to the culture and literature, will choose up to three stories in each category from among the participants. The prize will consist in the publication of a book that over the years will compile the awarded works in a short story treasury linked to Santa Maria Cathedral. Furthermore all participating stories will be posted on the Foundation´s website. The jury´s decision will be announced on May 26th.
