Santa Maria Cathedral participates in the TEDx Bilbao conference that it is dedicated to the design

2011/09/30 They will take part nine national and international experts that will explain how the design can change our environment.

             Vitoria- Gasteiz, 30th September 2011.- Santa Maria Cathedral participates today in TEDx Bilbao experience, where nine national and international experts related to the design world will discuss about how the design can change our environment. The Cathedral will expound the restoration plan and the design of the portico´s polychromies.The TEDx experiences are innovative ideas and knowledge spreading events. They are local conference programmes celebrated in the different capitals of the world but they are independent between them.
This conferences belong to the TED global network that began in California in 1984, and each participant has only 18 minutes for the conference.The one celebrated in 2010  was dedicated to the education,this second TEDx Bilbao experience is titled ´Imagine Design´ and the experts will try to explain how the design can change our environment. On behalf of Santa Maria Cathedral the architect and historian Oskar Bell will take part in this conference in english. He will explain the last 20 years of the Cathedral, the restoration works made during this time and above all the recovery of the portico´s polychromies. This recovery has been a hard work during years and thanks to a sophisticated digital video system we can recognize the evolution of the polychromies between the XVIth and XXth century.Vicente Ferrer Foundation, the architect Diego Soroa, the academician Salvador López, the computer and electronic enthusiast Héctor Martin, the coordinator of Hiriko electric car Gorka Espiau, the interiors architect Brigitte Sauvage, the innovation vice- president of Philips, and one of the designers and partner of Loreak Mendian are the other participants of the conference.
