Around 4600 schoolchildren from Vitoria will visit Santa Maria Cathedral thanks to the didactic units in collaboration with the City Council.

2011/10/14 Apart from visiting the cathedral, the children will participate in workshops about the history ,the archaeology, the art, the architecture of the cathedral and of the city.

            Vitoria- Gasteiz, 14th October 2011.- Around 4.600 schoolchildren will visit Santa Maria Cathedral this school year thanks to the didactic units organized in collaboration with the City Council. They will work until June in their classroom, they will participate in the workshops and walk around the cathedral to learn more about it. This is the fifth year that the City Council adds the cathedral to its educational offer. 49 schools have requested yet to participate this year.

The children of Primary Education will use dvds with explanations done by a character called Laia,  then they will participate in the workshop and they will visit the cathedral.

In the workshop titled ´The stone tells us´ they learn how was in the romanesque style built. The one called ´I see the cathedral´ explains the different areas of the cathedral. Other workshops are called ´The pocket city´, ´The cathedral is sick´ and ´ Once upon a time Vitoria- Gasteiz´.

This year, the students of high school graduate specialized in Art and New Technologies  will enjoy the polychromies of the portico.

The workshops and the visits are in spanish, basque or english.

Apart from these didactic units, Santa Maria Cathedral has collaboration agreements with educational centres of Álava, Vizcaya, Guipuzcoa, Navarra, La Rioja and Cantabria, and also with Architecture, History, Fine Arts and Tourism Faculties. The cathedral is also visited by exchange students, specially from Germany and France, and adults participating in the Experience Classrooms.
