The floor of the nave in Santa Maria Cathedral begins to be placed due to the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Vitoria

2012/01/20 They will be 1.100 square meters of oak wooden dais that will cover the naves, the transept and the ambulatory.

            Vitoria- Gasteiz, 20th January 2012.- The definitive wooden floor of the central nave has began to be placed due to the anniversary of the Diocese of Vitoria in April.
During the next three months the itinerary of guided visits will be modified.A 5 centimeters thick oak wooden dais will be placed over the wooden structure thai is being finished. The dais will have 1.100 square meters and will cover the whole nave, the transept and the ambulatory.
The lateral chapels will be restored later and the floor will be asphalted with a stone tiled floor like they did in the Chapel of the Holy Christ in 2009. The acoustic of Santa Maria Cathedral will be improved for the concerts, masses or sacramental orders.Provisional tiled floorFor installing the new floor the provisional one must be dismantled, that it was installed in 2008 with 400 square meters board that will be reused in another restoration works in the cathedral and in Cuchilleria Street. The cathedral will opened as usual although this work, only the free visit to the central nave will be cancelled until Eastern.The security and the comfort of the cathedral will be also improved inside the cathedral. A completely integrated heating system, illumination and PA systems will be installed in autumn 2013.
