Santa Maria Cathedral publishes the second volume of ´ Notes of Knowledge´

2012/03/26 It is an innovative technical publication about the hydraulic lime injections applied in the restoration of the cathedral.

                  Vitoria- Gasteiz, 26th March 2012.- Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation has published the second volume of the ´Notes of Knowledge´, a technical publication about the structural consolidation process of the cathedral and all the investigations needed. As it is necessary for us to share all this knowledge ,it has been also published under Creative Commons license. The book is entitled ´ Hydraulic lime injections in the consolidation of the fabrics. Applied investigation´ and explains all the process for consolidating through hydraulic lime injections of the hidden parts of the cathedral´s fabrics ( masonry walls, foundations, buttress, etc.) due its bad state of preservation. This publication will be of great use for the architectural restoration professionals.

There have been published 1.000 books and it is possible already to buy them for 15€ at the Visitors Reception Center ( Plaza Burullería).

Several professionals of different disciplines like architects, geologists, topographers, archaeologists, historians, chemists, geophysicists, technical architects and restorers have collaborated in this publication. It is possible to download, copy and distribute the book in a free way in www.catedralvitoria.com due to the Creative Commons license. The Álava County Council , that chairs the Patronate of Santa Maria Foundation ,has been very important for this publication because of its Restoration Service, Architectural- Historical Heritage Service and specially the General Laboratory, where all the tests and analysis have been done. The publication has been also printed in its printing works.

Notes of knowledge

´Notes of Knowledge´is the collection where this publication is included and this is the second volume. The first one began in 2010 with the publication ´ Studies and restoracion of the portico´.
