The conference about the cathedral of Albarracin will be the last one that Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation organizes this season.

2012/03/27 ´Encounters with another cathedrals´ offers this conference by the architect Pedro Ponce de León.

          Vitoria- Gasteiz, 27th March 2012.- Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation will offer on next Wednesday the last conference of this ´Encounters with another cathedrals´ series before summer time. The Cathedral of Albarracín in Teruel and the architect of the cathedral Pedro Ponce de León will be the protagonists in this conference. It will begin at 8pm in Luis de Ajuria hall ( General Álava St. 7) with free entrance. After offering conferences about the cathedrals of Pamplona, El Burgo de Osma, Tarazona or Sigüenza, Santa Maria Cathedral Foundation finishes the ´Encounters with another cathedrals´series and will begin on May the summer concert programme.

The Cathedral of Sigüenza , also known as El Salvador Cathedral, is settled down on an ancient romanesque temple built in the XIIth century. Martín de Castañeda and Quinto Pierres Bedel began to built the actual temple in 1572. On the XVIIIth century it was renovated inside with baroque elements like the pilasters that we can still see nowadays. The cathedral has a unique plan with side chapels, the most important one is El Pilar chapel, and outside we can admire the renaissance tower.

The conference is entitled ´ The Cathedral of Albarracín; origin, awakening and value of an historical building´ and the speaker will be the architect Pedro Ponce de Léon, who also drawn up the Master Plan of the cathedral in 1999. He is teacher, he has written several publications, he is member of the History Royal Academy since 2008 and member of the Europa Nostra Scientific Committee, and in 2011 he was jury in the Europa Nostra Awards.

He has participated in very important works like the drawing- up of the Special Protection Plan of the Historical Monuments of Albarracín, coordination in the restoration works of the medieval walls of Toledo, the drawing- up of the Master Plan of the El Escorial monastery surroundings, or the Europa Nostra Award for the restoration of the Episcopal Palace of Albarracín.

The conference will begin at 8pm in Luis de Ajuria hall ( General Alava 7) with free entrance.
